This Tussar silk Kotpad saree is handwoven in an unusual rust shade, created from pigments of the Aal tree. The black and white combination of the border adds a striking contrast, making this Kotpad saree exquisitely beautiful. This Saree also comes with an attached blouse piece.
The Kotpad is one of the rarest weaves in India. It is woven by only a handful of weavers living in the remote interiors of the eastern Indian state of Odisha. Weaving the Kotpad takes time because it all starts with getting the colour just right, using natural ingredients.
The distinctive earthy rust hue used in this weave is derived from the red dye extracted from the local 'Aal' or Banyan tree. The process of preparing this dye takes several months. The motifs woven into the Kotpad are also fascinating. They reflect the signature motifs of the local tribes.
